Gilding course
The following are the dates for our gilding courses in Schwabach. Please note that the number of participants is limited. No previous knowledge necessary.
Dive into the world of contemporary gilding techniques! In this hands-on seminar, you’ll learn how to work with Kölner Instacoll and Permacoll – two proven adhesive systems for modern leaf gilding, suitable for both indoor and outdoor applications.
New to the program is the use of Kölner Caselo casein paints – an innovative technique that opens up creative design possibilities on a wide range of surfaces. You’ll learn how to properly prepare surfaces, apply adhesives professionally, and apply metal leaf cleanly and with a brilliant finish.
In addition, we’ll share valuable tips from everyday workshop practice and take time to address individual questions and challenges.
This course is suitable for both beginners and experienced gilders who want to deepen their knowledge and learn new techniques.
The courses include consumables, food and drinks.

This course opens a golden window into history: together we’ll explore reverse glass gilding – a fascinating technique with centuries-old roots that, thanks to modern materials and methods, now offers exciting new possibilities.
In addition, you’ll learn traditional oil gilding – both in its glossy and matte forms. This technique is ideal for weather-resistant applications such as signs, ornaments, and traditional art objects.
Throughout the day, we’ll guide you through the selection of suitable base materials, the proper use of oil-based mordants, and the creation of reflective, richly luminous gold surfaces behind glass. The course also includes tips on avoiding common mistakes and achieving optimal results, along with practical insights from our master gilder, Mr. Dietmar Feldmann.
